Hi, How Are You? My name is Michael and I am a musician, carpenter, an almost graduate of UT, an affordable housing strategist, and the Executive Director of Junkyard.I started Junkyard to make some more noise in Austin.

Junkyard’s mission is to protect the Austin music community, champion face to face culture and analogue lifestyle, partner with existing forces of good in the world of Austin music, and deliver creative and necessary resources for Austin musicians to thrive in our growing city.

Music is the reason many of us live here. Without small/medium stages to play we are no longer able to raise songwriters and the unique voices Austin has always produced. We also loose the experience of sweating out a show together, elbow to elbow, at one of our neighborhood venues, where we all found ourselves gathered around a joyous noise, making joyous noises of our own.

Junkyard has a unique lens, and is ready to put the right pieces back together by creating new models of opprtunity for our musicians, despite the challenges of affordability in Austin.

Our first offering is the Junkpod, transformed city buses into FREE rehearsal spaces for HAAM (the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) registered Austin musicians. Let’s take a diesel powered bus, now a retired public resource, and turn it into another resource that benefits musicians and their needs to have a working space before performances and recording.
